Jack Welch to Sign Books in JMP Booth at European Six Sigma Summit

Jack Welch, former CEO of General Electric, is scheduled to appear at the JMP Booth during the European Six Sigma Summit, Friday, September 16th, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Welch will sign copies of his new book, "Winning," from 11-11:30, prior to his keynote address (sponsored by JMP). In his 20 years at General Electric, Welch transformed the company from a bureaucratic behemoth to a dynamic and revered powerhouse. During his tenure, GE market value grew from $13 billion to $500 billion.

The Six Sigma Summit is the largest, most senior gathering of Six Sigma and Quality professionals in Europe. Over 40 of Europe's leading companies will discuss Six Sigma, Design for Six Sigma, and other improvement methodologies.

Can You Design an Experiment Around a Lady Tasting Tea, and Does She Have to be British?

This is part of an on-going series, featured on the JMP website, called "Well, What Do You Know?" Every month or so, we add a new, interesting story about the field of statistics.

One afternoon in the late 1920's, a group of university dons and their wives were having tea in Cambridge, England.
One lady insisted that the tea tasted different depending on which was poured first, the tea or the milk. The men in attendance at first thought the idea was crazy. Then they decided to outline an experiment to see if she could be correct. The men would present the "tea lady" with a sequence of cups of tea. Some would have the milk poured into the tea, others would have tea poured into the milk. There would be different patterns of the mixture and several cups to taste. The men proceeded with the experiment....
