Overwhelmed by Information? Underwhelmed by Static Graphs?
The best predictive business models are those that present data as interactive graphs that reveal more than just the inputs and the outputs with a black box in between. So says Stephen Few, Principal of the consultancy Perceptual Edge, in an hour-long JMP Webcast, Predictive Analytics for the Eyes and Mind. Few discusses predictive analytics and how models should be built to display information in a way that allows our eyes to see relationships and our minds to make sense of them. He features an example that uses the JMP Prediction Profiler.
One Week, One City, Two Can't-Miss Events
Travel budgets are tight, but benchmarking and thought leadership become especially important when your organization is trying to do more with less. That's why for 2009 JMP is bringing together its two premier conferences, presenting them on consecutive days in an easy-to-access city. Plan now to come to Chicago Sept. 16-19 for Discovery 2009 -- the annual JMP users conference -- and the Innovators' Summit, our popular thought leadership event. If you can attend only one business conference for the year, make it these two!
Free Seminar: Shine a Light on Uncertainty
Risk visualization technology gives risk a shape, letting you visually explore scenarios to help reduce uncertainty, visualize opportunities and avoid stumbling blocks. Join management science expert Sam Savage, Consulting Professor at Stanford University's School of Engineering, for a complimentary daylong seminar designed especially for business professionals. Learn how you can mitigate business risks by visualizing them on your desktop -- an important advantage in today's chaotic economy. Sign up for the March 26 event in Chicago or the April 23 seminar in San Francisco.
Triangle, Mid-Atlantic Users Groups to Meet
JMP users in central North Carolina are invited to attend the inaugural meeting of the Triangle JMP Users Group Feb. 25 at SAS world headquarters in Cary, NC. John Sall, co-founder and Executive Vice President of SAS, will speak, along with Ed Hutchins, Manager of Sustaining Engineering for Cree, and Daniel Arneman, Greenhouse Gas Specialist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Lunch will be served, and a roundtable discussion will focus on the future and goals of this new group.
The Mid-Atlantic JMP Users Group will hold its second meeting Feb. 18 in Baltimore at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. The exciting agenda includes presentations from Dr. Joseph Herman and Dr. Manny Uy of Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Kathirkamanthan Shanmuganathan and Mel Alexander of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and Jose Ramirez of W.L. Gore & Associates. These new groups will provide education, networking and support to users of JMP and JMP Genomics software across their regions. Other benefits of attending include premier access to information on the latest JMP features along with access to the ears of our developers as they work on future developments.
JMP® Users Connect on SAS Site, Facebook
Do you have questions about JMP? Try asking them in an online forum. JMP users are engaging in lively conversations at the new JMP Software discussion forum on the SAS Support site and on the JMP User group on Facebook. Pose questions and post comments on any topic related to JMP -- from design of experiments and data visualization to genomics and JMP integration with SAS.
Trends in the Statistical Assessment of Product Reliability
Traditional reliability data has consisted of failure times for units that failed and running times for units that did not fail. Methods for analyzing such right-censored data were developed in the 1950s and the 1960s and became well-known to most statisticians by the 1970s. The statistical methods for the analysis of censored data that began to appear in commercial software by the mid-1980s are commonplace today. Read more about statistics and product reliability in this paper by reliability expert William Meeker.
Get the Training You Need in 2009
Read a Q&A with Brooke Fortson of SAS Education to get the scoop on the new JMP Training catalog and schedule. She talks about what's new in JMP courses, how to know what courses to take for your particular job, why you may want to take a Live Web course, how you can get a deal on JMP training -- and more. Check out the interview in the JMP Blog, and then download a PDF copy of the 2009 catalog and plan your training for the year.
Want to Know More About JMP® Genomics? Tour Our Virtual Library of White Papers
Whether your field is statistical genetics, biology, bioinformatics or another branch of genomics, walk through the virtual library of JMP Genomics white papers and download the pertinent documents with our compliments. Berkeley Researchers Help Save CA Oaks
Sudden oak death is a devastating forest disease caused by a newly described pathogen present in Oregon and California coastal forests. Matteo Garbelotto and his research team at UCB studied the use of phosphites to control the disease on live oaks, and used JMP to analyze their data. Listen to Garbelotto talk about this research and other UCB projects.
Newsletter Takes Technical Look at JMP® 8
Don't miss the Winter 2009 issue of JMPer Cable, the technical newsletter for JMP users. This time, it's all about JMP 8. You'll get a detailed introduction to powerful new platforms in JMP 8: Graph Builder for creating graphs interactively; Choice and Choice Design for designing and analyzing choice experiments, primarily for market research; and Life Distribution and Fit Life by X for performing reliability analysis. You'll find out about other enhancements to the software -- such as the ability to export JMP Bubble Plots and Profilers as Flash animations -- and changes to documentation. See details about this issue of JMPer Cable and get your PDF copy.
See New Genomics Software Capabilities
Preview new capabilities in the soon-to-be-released version of JMP Genomics and learn how prebuilt workflows can simplify analyses, even for novice users. Join JMP Genomics experts for a complimentary half-day seminar and learn how scientists and students around the world are streamlining the path to discovery with this powerful desktop software from SAS. Separate demonstrations will highlight its ease of use and its sophisticated capabilities. Explore the agenda at the link below, then register for one of three seminars: March 3 in Bedminster, NJ; March 4 in Philadelphia; or March 5 in Rockville, MD.
