You’ll learn about some of the core tenets of JMP and gain hands-on practice with the software. You can sign up for tutorials when you register for the conference. The sessions will be held in the conference hotel, Hilton Amsterdam, and laptops will be provided.

Query Builder: The New JMP® 12 Tool for Getting Your SQL Data Into JMP

Tutorial Description: Query Builder is a new feature introduced in JMP 12 that helps you get data from relational databases into JMP in a repeatable and shareable way. This tutorial will provide hands-on experience using Query Builder to help you get up to speed quickly back at the office. Some knowledge of SQL queries and/or previous experience with ODBC is helpful for getting the most out of this tutorial. The tutorial will cover:

  • SQL query concepts overview.
  • Launching Query Builder.
  • Adding tables to the query.
  • Adding columns to the query.
  • Filtering.
  • Running queries.
  • Saving and sharing queries.
  • Scripting queries.

Definitive Screening Designs: What, Why and How

Tutorial Description:  Definitive screening designs (DSDs) are a new class of designs for factor screening that Professor Doug Montgomery has called “probably the most important development in design of experiments in the last 50 years.” These designs are unique in that screening is performed at three levels for quantitative factors and, if just a few active effects are found, the designs project to highly efficient response surface designs in the active factors. When this is the case, screening and optimisation can then be accomplished in one step, avoiding the need for follow-up experiments. The most complete support for design and analysis of DSDs is in JMP. Electronic versions of JMP journals and the presentation slides will be provided.

This course starts by introducing DSDs in their simplest form (where all the factors are quantitative) and demonstrating their extra capabilities over standard two-level fractional factorial and Plackett-Burman screening designs. I will show how to generate DSDs for scenarios where there are additional two-level categorical factors. I will also show how to orthogonally block these designs if the factors are all quantitative or if there is a mix of quantitative and two-level categorical factors.

I will introduce each new wrinkle of design construction with a practical example including data. Finally, I will supply a powerful new method for analysing DSDs and compare it with previous analytical approaches.

Time-Saving Strategies for Building Robust Predictive Models With JMP® Pro

Tutorial Description: JMP Pro is often thought of as the JMP product for "advanced modellers." However, when armed with just a little knowledge of some best practises, it is quick and easy for anyone to take advantage of the capabilities in JMP Pro for building accurate and robust predictive models. In this workshop I will demonstrate the use of time-saving methodologies for handling messy data with missing values and outliers that are built into the Neural, Bootstrap Forest, Partial Least Squares and Generalised Regression platforms in JMP Pro 12. The techniques in these platforms streamline the data analysis process by requiring less manual data cleanup by the user while at the same time making more efficient use of the all information available. I will also show how to use cross-validation methods to ensure that the models will retain their accuracy on new data. At the end of the workshop, I will walk the user through the decision-making process to identify which predictive model is the best overall, using the Model Comparison platform.Throughout the presentation I will offer straightforward explanations of how each of the methods is implemented, while giving practical advice about which options generally lead to the best results.

Creating Effective Visualisations Using Graph Builder

Tutorial Description: This tutorial will teach basic through advanced use of JMP Graph Builder, both from an exploration perspective and a presentation perspective. We will start with the basic components: variables, roles, elements, legends, scales, and the properties of each, as well as how these components work together. We’ll cover common visualisations (points, lines and bars) and their variations, as well as specialised visualisations including filtered views, geographic maps, heat maps, contours, overlays and small multiples. From there, we’ll cover how to create rich displays within Graph Builder by reshaping data and combining graphic elements. Finally, we’ll show how to combine multiple graphs into a single coordinated view with custom filters and save it so that it can be reproduced with different data. This tutorial will include hands-on exercises, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own data and challenges to share.
