Description: This script demonstrates the basic optimization algorithm in the Custom Designer. It includes three graphs to show the variance of prediction. These graphs introduce the Prediction Variance Profiler toll as a 'slice' through or an 'on edge' view (projection) of the variance contour plot.

Instructions: Simply open and run the script. The design is for a two-factor response surface optimization experiment. Initially use the default settings, so just click OK. In later demonstrations choose a different number of runs. Select a reasonable delay so that you can actually see the search process in action.

The default settings are used to explain the algorithm for the Custom Design platform. The script automatically positions the windows so that they are side by side. With this layout, you can watch the data table with the design matrix values update as you watch the design points move in the graph. When this run is finished, open the new outline section to the right to reveal the additional plots.

Close both windows and run it again. This time uncheck the option to shift the window to the right. This change is the cue to use more of the display in order to reveal the new plots while the demonstration is running. The graphs update as each point comes to rest.

NOTE 1: Try different lengths of time for the pause and see what timing suits your delivery the best. Also, just turn off the pause in later runs when you just want to get to the end.

NOTE 2: We suggest using 10 runs when you demonstrate the I-optimal form. There is nothing 'wrong' with the design of the default 16 runs but it will not match the Custom Design platform result.

NOTE 3: Studying the script will not reveal the algorithm or implementation of Custom Design. This implementation is for a demonstration only and the example is just two continuous factors.
