The File -> Open method for importing Excel files bypasses the use of
an ODBC driver.  Since this method was developed prior to the release of
Office 2007, the newer extensions are not supported for import into
releases of JMP® prior to JMP 7 using this method.

Excel 2007 files must be imported with the use of the appropriate Excel
2007 ODBC driver.  In order to do this, select Database -> Open Table
from the File menu.  This will bring up the dialog where you may select
the appropriate DSN for the Excel 2007 ODBC driver.
