JMP® GENOMICS TOUR 2010
Heidelberg – March 10 | Paris – March 12
Register now for the inaugural JMP Genomics Tour, coming soon to Heidelberg and Paris. Take this opportunity to see how scientists around the world are using this powerful desktop software from SAS to answer wide-ranging research questions related to genetics, expression, exon and copy-number analysis.
Morning Sessions: Statistical Issues in the Analysis of Genomics.
Session 1: Keynote Speech: Mixed Model Applications in Genomics, Dr. Russ Wolfinger, Director of Scientific Discovery and Genomics, SAS institute
This session discusses two real-world applications of advanced mixed models in genomics.
The first is testing for alternative splicing in exon-level expression data: Interaction F-tests are used to screen for sites of potential alternative splicing, then one-degree-of-freedom components are used to determine the active sites that are then visualized.
The second is adjusting for population structure and kinship in genome-wide association studies: Genetic marker data is used to estimate the covariance structure among individuals, then this information is incorporated in building a mixed-model.
Session 2: Addressing the Challenges of the Analysis of Genomics Data with JMP Genomics, Dr Valerie Nedbal, JMP Pharmaceutical Technical Manager, SAS Institute
This session draws attention to the value of interactive and dynamic visualization of genomics data. Through specific usage scenarios in JMP Genomics, it showcases the power of statistical discovery in settings relevant to drug discovery and development.
Afternoon Session: Workshop – Genetics and Expression Data Analysis with JMP Genomics
This workshop targets researchers who wish to increase their understanding of statistical issues involved with genomics data analysis. After reviewing some primary molecular biology vocabulary and concepts, we will divide our time roughly equally between analysis of genetic marker data and transcript abundance (microarray) data. The former will focus on modern genome-wide association studies and the latter on large-scale mRNA profiling methodologies. There will be a mixture of theory, applications, and practical examples emphasizing both inference and prediction as well the critical need to blend vizualization with statistical modeling.
Come to interactively and dynamically explore various data sets and results discussed in the morning session. A journal of scripts will be made freely available for download. A laptop with Windows XP or Vista is required if you wish to run the scripts yourself, and you will need to install JMP 8 beforehand. A free 30-day trial is available at www.jmp.com.
JMP Genomics combines powerful analytics and interactive data visualization to dynamically link advanced statistics with graphics. Whether you’re working from data generated from traditional microarray studies or summarized from next-generation technologies, JMP Genomics provides the visual path to scientific discovery. Take this opportunity to learn more.
