In Shenzhen, a meeting of the innovation-minded
“The story has not yet been written for Industry 4.0.” These were the opening words delivered by Dr. Roger Hoerl to kick off the 2019 Discovery Summit in Shenzhen, China. The writing of that story was one of the key themes advanced during the annual conference, where JMP users traveled from across the nation – and indeed, the world – to discuss how data analytics can help speed innovation cycles.
As Hoerl said, the integration of new cyber solutions with traditional technology is making revolutionary new data methods a reality – one that companies like BOE, China’s leading display and smart systems manufacturer, are embracing with exemplary vision. Keynote speaker Pengfei Rong, Section Chief in Quality Planning at BOE, transfixed the audience in Shenzhen by demonstrating how the company has built fully integrated systems through a symbiosis between data analytics and quality improvement. “If you don’t innovate, you’re bound to decline,” she warned. “The question is not whether to innovate or not. It is who can innovate better and who can innovate faster.”
In the afternoon’s breakout sessions, presenters from Applied Materials, Micron, ATL and Innovent Biologics, among others, fielded thought-provoking questions. And by the Summit’s close, ongoing conversations and the makings of new ideas and partnerships moved online to be continued until we meet again next year.
