Phil Kay

Director of Global Presales

Phil Kay leads the team of global Systems Engineers for JMP Statistical Discovery. His team works with science and engineering companies around the world to understand their challenges and then to guide them toward data analytics solutions.

Early in his career, Kay worked at FujiFilm in the lab as a process development chemist. While there, he had some big successes using design of experiments (DOE), which led to him becoming a data scientist and gaining a master’s degree in applied statistics with a dissertation on DOE at Lancaster University. He also has a master’s and Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Edinburgh.

Kay works actively with the Royal Society of Chemistry as a Chartered Chemist and was chair of the Process Chemistry and Technology Group from 2023-2025. He is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society. He was the recipient of the Greenfield Award from the European Network of Business and Industrial Statistics in 2025.

He loves talking and writing about the value of DOE through journal papers, articles, book chapters, social media, and blog posts, as well as cohosting The Next Experiment podcast.
