Welcome and Introductions

Text Mining in Mandarin Language using JMP
JMP text explorer has empowered us to draw insights from unstructured text, such as ratings & reviews, social media posts, and verbatims. Its support for some Asian languages makes it even more exciting for Asia. This talk shares examples and tips of using JMP for mining Chinese text.

In agriculture, the traditional experimental design (TED) involves hypothesis testing which requires the significant spread of resources across locations, seasons and years in different production systems. In rice, for example, a field biologist expenses 98 hours in managing a field test for about five months. One test incurs costs amount to USD 5,000 to 10,000.
In 2009, Syngenta was interested in designing a proprietary crop protection program that offers value to rice farmers. Such a project typically requires as many as 25 tests per production environment and incurs up to USD 8 million across Asia Pacific. Before investing in such a project, we first ascertained the value of the Syngenta crop protection program in comparison with the local farmer practice.
From the design of experiments (DOE) suite, the selected custom design helped to reduce resources by 75%. With a flexible experimental structure, it also verified an optimum crop program which increased the rice yield. In this paper, we will demonstrate the statistical techniques and value of DOE versus TED in field tests.

Prediction Modelling Using Neural Networks in JMP
Machine Learning is currently a topic of great interest in many industries, and Neural Network models are one of many choices available to scientists and engineers. Challenges associated with Neural Network models include feature selection for the model input variables, determining the model node structure, strategies to ensure unbiased Training and Validation test sets, and determining model validity. This presentation will provide some basic background on Neural Networks and outline some techniques to address these challenges using JMP
