Chair of the Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication, University of Cambridge

Sir David Spiegelhalter works to improve the way statistical evidence is used by health professionals, patients, lawyers, media and policymakers. He advises organizations and government agencies on risk communication and is a regular media commentator on statistical issues, with a particular focus on communicating uncertainty.

Spiegelhalter comes from a background in medical statistics – particularly the use of Bayesian methods in clinical trials, health technology assessment and drug safety. He has over 200 refereed publications and is co-author of six textbooks, as well as The Norm Chronicles (with Michael Blastland) and Sex by Numbers. Spiegelhalter’s bestselling book, The Art of Statistics, was published in March 2019.
