The presenter uses warranty data provided in a Nevada format to examine, model and forecast warranty claims and their costs. He uses aircraft engine data to demonstrate how to model how design changes introduced over time impact the reliability of a repairable system. He examines the mean time between failures and fitted mean times between failures for each design change phase.
The presenter shows how to use degradation data for a stability study of a gallium arsenide laser. His example uses a linear path, where the property he measures is linear with respect to time.
The presenter demonstrates how to build block diagrams to describe systems/subsystems, arrange components in parallel or series, fit each component to a life distribution and analyze how component reliability contributes to the success or failure of a system as diagrammed. He shows how to save components to a JMP library and reuse them to create diagram of system. He concludes by comparing the probability of failure for different system configurations and how each component does or does not contribute to system failure.
