Number of Bins for Dose Group

Use this option to specify the number of bins into which the subjects receiving different treatment dosages, as reported in the EXDOSE variable in the ex.sas7bdat data set, are to be grouped.

Binning the dosage groups reduces the number of groups to be plotted on a graph and facilitates visual inspection of the results. This option is useful when the number of dosage groups is very large.

Dosage groups are generally equally divided among the bins, although in some cases, certain bins can contain more groups. Groups are never divided among different bins.

For example, if you bin 10 dosage groups into 5 bins, each bin would contain 2 groups. However, if you bin the same 10 groups into 3 bins, 2 bins would each contain 3 groups, while the third bin would contain 4 groups.

8 To prevent binning, set the number of bins to a value exceeding the number of dosage groups.
