Options to Define Cluster Membership

Use this option to specify how much cluster information is to be retained in the output data set.

Available options are listed in the following table:

Option

Definition

None

Select this option to return the full hierarchical tree. No clusters are defined and no additional columns are added to the output distance matrix.

Number of Clusters

Select this option and specify the maximum number of clusters to form to use the number of clusters as the basis for defining cluster membership.

An additional column is added to the output distance matrix containing the cluster membership for each row in the input data set.

Tree Axis Cutoff Level

Select this option and define clusters based on a cutoff level of the X-axis of the hierarchical tree (Tree Axis Cutoff Level).

Note: This cutoff level used depends on values of the variable specified with the Variable to Define Tree Axis drop-down menu.

PROC TREE only creates the hierarchical clustering plot up to the cutoff level specified.

An additional column is added to the output distance matrix containing the cluster membership for each row in the input data set.
