Trait Variable

Use this field to specify the trait variable for the analysis.

Specific types of trait variables might be required, depending on the process that you are running. The table below lists process-specific requirements:

Process

Trait Requirements1

Haseman-Elston Regression

The trait must either be numeric binary or continuous.

K Matrix Compression

Binary, continuous, and ordinal, traits are all valid.

Specify the trait type using the Type of Trait drop-down menu.

Note: This variable is used for optimizing the mixed model when the optimized compression method is chosen.Only one trait can be specified for optimization because different traits typically result in different optimal K compression levels.

Quantitative TDT

The trait must be continuous.

Rare Variant Association

The trait can either be binary or continuous.

Specify the trait type using the Type of Trait drop-down menu.

Variance Components

The trait must be continuous.

To Specify a Trait Variable:

8 Specify the input data set.

All of the variables in the specified data set are displayed in the Available Variables field.

8 Examine the list of available variables.
8 Highlight the desired variable.
8 Click to add the highlighted variable to the Trait Variable field, as shown below:
