Progeny Selection Method

Use this option to select the method for selecting progeny.

Method:

Definition:

Optimized Selection

This method uses the Pareto frontier multi-objective optimization technique to select those simulated progenies that have the scoring values of traits lying at the optimized frontier.

Threshold Selection

This method uses pre-defined trait thresholds to select best progenies.

Index Selection

This method uses the selection index to select best progenies.

Percent Selection

This method selects only the top p-percent (where p is larger than 0 and smaller than 100) best progenies.

This option is only available for univariate selection, i.e., either when one Scoring Code File only is specified in the Folder Containing Scoring Code Files option on the General tab or when multiple Scoring Code Files are specified and the option to Compute selection index is checked on the Analysis tab.

Only the selected subset of progenies in each generation are used to make crosses to produce the next breeding generation.

To Specify the Progeny Selection Method:

8 Make sure that Select best simulated progenies to cross option is checked.
8 Select the desired method using the radio buttons.
