Type of Trait

The pull down menu enables you to specify the type of trait defined by the variables listed in the Trait Variables field.

Note: This parameter is unavailable for selection unless a trait variable has been specified.

Option:	Select this Option When:
Binary	The specified trait variable defines a dichotomous trait. This variable can be either character or numeric, but it must have only two values (in addition to “missing”). When this option is specified, the last ordered category is designated as the value of the event (SAS syntax: trait(EVENT=LAST)). The analysis is performed using either SAS PROC LOGISTIC (when no random effects are specified) or SAS PROC GLIMMIX (when random effects are specified).
Continuous	The specified trait variable defines a continuous traitwith an undetermined number of variables continuously distributed within a defined range. The analysis is performed using SAS PROC MIXED.
Nominal	The specified trait is a qualitative trait that describes data rather than quantifying it. The analysis is performed using either SAS PROC LOGISTIC (when no random effects are specified) or SAS PROC GLIMMIX (when random effects are specified).
Ordinal	The values of the specified trait variable consist of multiple discrete levels. The analysis is performed using either SAS PROC LOGISTIC (when no random effects are specified) or SAS PROC GLIMMIX (when random effects are specified).
Count	The analysis is performed using SAS PROC GLIMMIX.
Survival	The specified trait defines a period of time between some defined starting point and the date of death. The analysis is performed using SAS PROC PHREG.
