Process Description

Create 0-1 Columns from a Class Variable

The Create 0-1 Columns from a Class Variable process creates a new 0-1 indicator column for each level found in the selected column.

For example, if the selected column S of the active JMP table contains levels A, B, and C, three new columns are appended to the end of the table: A, B, and C. If the value of row 5 of S is B, then the new column B is assigned a value of 1, but the new columns A and C are assigned values of 0, on row 5.

What do I need?

One JMP table, open and in focus. A dialog prompts for your desired source column in this operation.

For detailed information about the files and data sets used or created by JMP Genomics software, see Files and Data Sets.

Output/Results

The output of this process consists of a new indicator column for each of the levels found in the selected column. For each row, the value in each of the new columns indicates the level of the selected column: 1 indicates that the level of the selected column matches the level of the indicator column; 0 indicates that it does not.

The selected column and new indicator columns are shown in the black box below. (For clarity, all irrelevant columns between the selected and new columns have been hidden.)
