The Augment Design red triangle menu has several options. Many options are for saving and loading information about variables. They are available in all designs. See Custom Design Options for details.
To create a script and save it as a table property in the JMP design data table, select Save X Matrix from the Augment Design red triangle menu. Two or three scripts are saved to the table. Moments Matrix and Design Matrix scripts are always saved. If the design is a split plot design, an additional V Inverse script is also saved.
When you run the Moments Matrix script, JMP creates a matrix called Moments and displays its number of rows in the log.
When you run the Design Matrix script, JMP creates a matrix called X and displays its number of rows in the log.
When you run the V Inverse script, JMP creates the inverse of the variance matrix of the responses, and displays its number of rows in the log.
If the log is not open, select View > Log (on Windows) or Window > Log on the Macintosh.
Modify the Design Criterion (D- or I- Optimality)
To modify the design optimality criterion, select Optimality Criterion from the Augment Design red triangle menu and then select Make D-Optimal Design, Make I-Optimal Design, or Make Alias Optimal Design. The default criterion for Recommended is D-optimal for all design types unless you clicked the RSM button in the Model panel to add effects that make the model quadratic.
The Number of Starts option applies only to the Augment choice. The Number of Starts is the number of times that the coordinate-exchange algorithm initiates with a new design. See Coordinate-Exchange Algorithm in Custom Designs. You can specify your own value using the Number of Starts option. Increasing the number of random starts tends to improve the optimality of the resulting design.
The Design Search Time option applies only to the Augment choice. The Design Search Time is the maximum number of seconds spent searching for a design. The default search time is based on the complexity of the design. If the iterations of the algorithm require more than a few seconds, a Computing Design progress window appears. If you click Cancel in the progress window, the calculation stops and gives the best design found at that point. The progress window also displays D-efficiency for D-optimal designs that do not include factors with Changes set to Hard or Very Hard or with Estimability set to If Possible.
Note: You can set a preference for Design Search Time. Select File > Preferences > Platforms > DOE. Check Design Search Time and enter the maximum number of seconds. In certain situations where more time is required, JMP extends the search time.
You can specify your own value using the Design Search Time option. Increasing the search time tends to improve the optimality of the resulting design.
Augment designs can be constrained to a hypersphere. To edit the sphere radius for the design in units of the coded factors (–1, 1), select Sphere Radius from the Augment Design red triangle menu. Enter the appropriate value and click OK.
