Example of Packing Columns
In this example, you want to compare median gas mileages for hybrid and non-hybrid engines across various manufacturers. Use the Pack Columns option to concisely show city, highway, and combined gas mileages.
1. Select Help > Sample Data Folder and open Hybrid Fuel Economy.jmp.
2. Select Analyze > Tabulate.
3. Select City MPG, Hwy MPG, and Comb MPG and drag them into the Drop zone for columns.
4. Select Median and drag it into the cell that says Sum below City MPG.
5. Select one of the table cells labeled Median and drag it just above the City MPG cell.
6. Select the Comb MPG column and drag it to the left of the City MPG column.
7. Select Carline Class Desc and Engine and drag them to the blank cell on the left side of the table.
8. Select the three MPG columns in the table and right-click on one of the columns.
9. In the pop-up menu, select Pack Columns > Pack.
Tip: To adjust the formatting of the statistics in the packed column, right-click on the packed column heading and select Pack Columns > Template.
10. (Optional.) Right-click on either of the grouping column headings and select Stack Grouping Columns.
11. Click Done.

The median gas mileages for hybrid vehicles is higher in each vehicle class. For instance, the combined gas mileage for hybrid large cars is 20, and the combined gas mileage for gas large cars is 17.
