Create a New Tag

You can create new tags by opening the New Tag window from the following areas in JMP:

the Tags area of the Columns panel

the Column Info window

the pop-up menu of a column in the Columns panel

the Preferences window

To open the New Tag window from the Tags area of the Columns panel

1. Open a data table.

2. Select the disclosure icon (Image shown here) next to the Tags area of the Columns panel.

3. In the expanded Tags area, select the Plus (Image shown here) button to open the New Tag window.

To create a new tag from the Column Info window

1. Open a data table.

2. Click the column header or a column cell to which you want to add a tag.

3. Select Cols > Column Info.

The Column Info window appears for the selected column.

4. Select the Plus (Image shown here) button to open the New Tag window.

To create a new tag from the pop-up menu of a column in the Columns panel

1. Open a data table.

2. Right-click a column in the Columns panel.

3. Select Tags > Add Tag.

After the New Tag window is open, use the following steps to create a tag.

1. Specify a name.

This name does not appear in the data table or reports, but it does appear in places that list your tags, such as the Tags area of the Columns panel or in column filtering options.

Note: Tag names are case-insensitive and space-insensitive. For example, IncomeGroup, income group, and INCOMEGROUP are treated as the same tag.

2. Specify a style.

Tag styles can be a color, an emoji, or blank (None).

Colors can be selected from a set of common colors or a custom color.

Emojis can similarly be selected from a set of common emojis or selected from the full emoji list. To see the emoji keyboard, press Windows key+Period (.) on Windows or Ctrl+Cmd+spacebar on Apple macOS.

3. Add an optional description or column property.

4. Click OK.
